WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1873 RIFLE WITH CASE COLORED RECEIVER, FANCY WOOD AND FACTORY LETTER. WINCHESTER 1873 112797 32 WCF Cal. 32 WCF. 24" half-oct bbl, half-magazine, blue and case colored finish. Fancy American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight with Cal. mark to the rear. Rifle has blade front sight and buckhorn rear sight. Front sight blade is missing. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Lower left tang on inside is marked "X" with assembly number "4613" followed by "32 R". Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" with finials. SN is stamped on lower tang behind lever latch. Elevator also has Cal. mark. Assembly number "4671" is stamped on the upper tang mortise of the buttstock and on the inside toe of buttplate. Buttstock shows crotch grain on both sides. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Record Office search document confirming all features and showing shipment on March 27, 1883 to Order Number 3320. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl shows 80% of the blue finish that is somewhat faded toward the muzzle with only some minor mars and scratches. Bbl address is sharp. Sights are very good except as noted. Bbl markings are sharp. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 80% of the case colored finish that is vivid in protected areas and slightly silvered out overall with no marring. All markings are sharp. Hammer and lever also retain most of the case color finish that has silvered out on the lever. Stocks are very good, full sized and fit very well. Buttstock and buttplate is a replacement as noted. Buttplate shows traces of case color that has drifted to a silver/grey patina with erosion at the heel and toe. Forend cap retains 50% case colored finish. Mechanics are crisp.
