WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 RIFLE WITH LYMAN RECEIVER SIGHT AND FACTORY LETTER.WINCHESTER188613349638-56 WCFMODERN; C&RCal. 38-56 WCF. 26" oct bbl, full magazine, Lyman front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight, and Lyman receiver sight. Full blue finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address in front of rear sight with Cal. mark to rear. SN appears on lower tang behind lever. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1886 / WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK". Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter confirming all features except Lyman sights and showing shipment on May 20, 1905 to Order Number 11412. PROVENANCE: The collection of Tim Zissler. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl and magazine retain 95% of the blue finish that is drifting somewhat to plum-brown with minor high point and muzzle wear. Sights very good, markings are sharp. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 95% plus of the blue finish, again with minor high point wear. Receiver sight also retains nearly all of the blue finish. Bolt retains nearly all of the blue finish. Loading gate shows considerable fire blue. Tang markings are sharp. Hammer and lever both retain a considerable amount of case color that has turned silver on the lever loop. Stocks are fine, full sized and retain nearly all of the varnish finish with only very slight handling marks. Buttplate is a mottled grey-brown patina with no roughness. Forend cap shows 95% of the blue finish. Mechanics are crisp. A very nice Winchester 86 in a desirable configuration and a somewhat rare Cal. 52471-18 TEP (5,000-8,000)
