ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 DELUXE ROUND BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH IVORY BEAD LYMAN FRONT SIGHT AND LYMAN TANG SIGHT. WINCHESTER 1886 22657 40-65WCF ESA Cal. 40-65 WCF. 26" rnd bbl, full magazine, Lyman blade front sight with ivory bead, sporting rear sight, Lyman tang sight. Blue and case color finish with nicely figured American walnut stocks with checkered pistol grip and forearm. Pistol grip is not capped but has an ebony insert. Steel crescent buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address rolled in front of the rear sight with the Cal. designation to the rear of the sight. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1886" bordered by dashes. SN appears on lower tang. Patent mark also appears on lower tang. Left inside of lower tang shows "X" designating fancy wood. Assembly number "273" appears on the left lower inner tang and on the toe of the buttplate. Assembly number is not seen in upper tang mortise of buttstock because of repair. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl and magazine tube show a smooth blue/brown patina overall with some roughness toward the muzzle and a scratch mark near the bbl address. Sights are very good. Markings are sharp. Bore is frosty with visible rifling. Receiver shows generous traces of case color in protected areas with the balance turning a silver patina. There is some erosion at the carry point. Markings are sharp. Bolt shows considerable blue finish. Hammer and trigger are a smooth grey/brown patina with traces of case colors in protected areas. Rear tang sight is very good with traces of blue. Stocks are very good, full sized and only show minor handling marks overall. As previously noted, the buttstock was once cracked at the wrist and has been repaired with glue and a pin through the forward part of the wrist. Glue inside covered assembly number. Checkering is sharp with a few minor dents. Stocks show minor handling marks overall with some bruising on the forward right side of the forend. Buttplate is a mottled silver/grey patina with some erosion on the tang. Forend cap is a silver/grey patina with hints of case color. Mechanics are fine. A very attractive Deluxe Model 1886 Winchester made in 1888. 52405-6 TEP (4,000-5,000)
