WINCHESTER MODEL 1894 SPECIAL ORDER SADDLE RING CARBINE.WINCHESTER189452594632-40MODERN; C&RCal. 32-40. Special order carbine with 20" round barrel, button magazine, square base German silver front sight, and carbine ladder rear sight graduated to 2000 yards. Receiver has a stud and ring in the left side. Mounted with gum wood stock and forearm with straight grip and carbine buttplate. Left side of barrel and correspondingly on the receiver have British Provisional proofs with another on the bolt. This rifle was produced about 1910 and was undoubtedly intended as a hunting rifle, although given the light and well balanced configuration, it certainly could have belonged to a westerner as a saddle gun. Finding a carbine from that era with such high original condition is an extreme rarity. PROVENANCE: The collection of Tim Zissler. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Barrel and magazine retain about 99% crisp original factory blue and the receiver about 98% crisp factory blue with a few light scratches on each side. Hammer retains virtually all of its strong original case colors and the lever bright case colors on the sides, moderately faded on the outer faces. Forearm band retains about 60-70% original blue with the losses flaked to a light patina. Buttplate retains about 80% crisp original blue with losses flaked. Wood is sound with 3 bruises on left side of buttstock and a couple more right side of wrist and on the forearm and overall retains virtually all of its fine original factory finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. May be unfired with original grease still on the bolt face and in the chamber. A truly exceptional find. 52471-3 JRL (3,500-5,000)
