CUSTOM SAVAGE MODEL 99 RIFLE BY GRIFFIN & HOWE WITH SUPERB GAME SCENE ENGRAVING BY PAUL JAEGER.SAVAGELever 99 custom908148250-3000MODERN; C&RCal. 250-3000. Standard configuration, solid frame. 20" Bbl with no cut for rear sight, is engraved "No 2431 Griffin & Howe Inc, New York, N.Y." on top, breech end engraved for about first 3-1/2" to match action. Blued action is engraved with near full coverage very finely cut open and scrolling acanthus with stippled background surrounding superb game scenes; big horn ram with mountains as background on right, white tail buck jumping over fallen log in ancient woodlands around bottom, and portrait of bugling elk with alpine background on left. This scene is signed "Paul Jaeger, Jenkintown, PA" at bottom. Lever and grip cap are engraved en suite. Lightly marbled dense American walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-5/8" over Neidner type checkered buttplate. Side panels and grip are nicely checkered, and a shadow line cheekpiece is on left side of stock. Matching forend has schnabeled tip. Action is fitted with Lyman folding rear sight with windage adjustment. PROVENANCE: Ex Dr. Frank Miller Collection. Ex Mark Benenson Collection. Estate Collection of Russell Grinnell. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining nearly all of its fine custom finishes with some handling and operating marks, some loss of blue inside of trigger guard due to flaking. Bore is excellent.
