COLT NEW MODEL 1861 NAVY REVOLVER WITH COLT FACTORY LETTER COLT 1861 NAVY 11265 36 Cal. 36. 7-1/2" bbl, blue and case color finish with 1-pc American walnut grip. Top of bbl shows 1-line Colt New York address. Bbl, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap show a matching SN. Last 4 digits of SN appear on cylinder and arbor; last 3 digits of SN appear on the wedge above no. 3939 which has been crossed out - this is definitely a factory error. SNs match. "2" is stamped under the SN on frame, trigger guard, bbl, and back strap. The "2" is also dbl struck on the left forward bow of the trigger guard. Colt's Patent is stamped on the left side of the frame with Cal. mark on the left rear flat of trigger guard. Grip was not removed but fits perfectly and appears original. Accompanied with a Colt factory letter documenting the gun shipped August 6 1862 to Schuyler Hartley and Graham, serial number 11265 .36 cal, 7 1/2 inch barrel Finish listed as Blue/Plated with wood grips in a shipment of 20 guns. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 40-50% bright blue in protected areas with the balance drifting to plum-blue. Marking is sharp, bbl lug is slightly battered around edge. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Rammer shows traces of case color. Frame shows 40-50% case color that is vivid near the recoil shield. Balance has worn to a silver-grey patina. Markings are sharp, screws show traces of blue. Trigger guard and backstrap show traces of electroplated silver finish that has mostly flaked off, which is common to this vintage revolver. Cylinder retains considerable blue with a sharp scene and clear "Engaged" mark. Cylinder has 6 safety pins intact, nipples are clear. Grip retains nearly all of the varnish finish with highpoint wear and a few dents. Mechanics are crisp. A very fine new model Colt Navy revolver circa 1863. 52707-10 TEP (5,000-8,000)
