RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 SINGLE SHOT SCHUETZEN RIFLE WITH STEVENS TELESCOPE.WINCHESTER18858758638/55W/SCOPEMODERN; C&RCal. 38/55. 30" no. 5 bbl. Full blue finish. Straight grain American walnut stocks with checkered pistol grip, cheekpiece and gunmetal Schuetzen butt. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address marked in front of rear sight mortise. Cal. is marked at breech. Front sight is of globe type that is adjustable for windage. Rear sight mortis contains spirit level. Bbl shows no. 5 stamped on bottom in front of forend. This is a very rare size bbl for this model. Receiver is mounted with a bernier tang sight. Rifle has a sgl set trigger and a standard operating lever which is also rare. SN is stamped on lower tang behind lever with patent date stamped under it. Tang sight was not removed. Telescope is marked "J.Stevens Arms Company no. 368". CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains 80% somewhat dull blue finish with high point wear and a few small dents. Markings are clear. Front sight is very good. Scope blocks have been installed. Front block obliterates part of the address. Spirit level is good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 80% bright blue finish with minor scratches and handling marks overall. Hammer and lever retain generous traces of case color finish with the balance being a silver grey patina. Set trigger functions. Tang sight is very good with considerable blue. Stocks are very good, somewhat undersized, and have been completely refinished at some point. Checkering has been recut. There is a stain on the left side of buttstock. Buttplate is about fine with a deep mustard patina. Ebony insert on schnabel forend is very good. Telescope is very good and retains 50% of blue finish. Optics are clear. Markings are clear. Mechanics are crisp. A chance to obtain a very rare heavy bbl Winchester model 1885 Schuetzen rifle that the owner modified to fit his needs. 52578-1 TEP (4,000-6,000)
