SCARCE REMINGTON NO. 3 HEPBURN TYPE-A SINGLE SHOT TARGET RIFLE WITH AMMUNITION, BULLETS, LOADING TOOLS AND CASE. REMINGTON HEPBURN I9916 32-30 Cal. 32-30. Fine Remington target rifle in a proprietary Remington caliber with 26" oct to rnd bbl, Wingauge globe front sight, slot blank in rear seat and drilled & tapped for scope bases. Muzzle end of bbl is drilled for a 6-prong bullet starter, which is missing. Top tang is mounted with a thick base Vernier tang sight with 3-1/4" staff. Receiver has sgl trigger. Mounted with nicely figured, slab-sawed American walnut with black insert, uncheckered, Schnable tip forearm and checkered bag shaped pistol grip stock with Remington steel, semi-crescent buttplate. Top flat of bbl is marked with "Remington Arms Co." address and bottom of bbl is marked "32-30". According to Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms, there were about 1000 of these fine rifles produced 1883-1907. Very few remain unaltered today as most were changed in some way to suit the owner's needs or whims. Accompanied by a fine modern, green felt lined custom oak case that has brass corners, latches and a functioning lock with key. Bottom is compartmented for the rifle and a box of UMC primed shells which have been loaded, one missing; a box of Remington 32 cal. grooved bullets; an Ideal nickeled loading tool with expander plug and an Ideal wood handled bullet mold. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains about 95% strong orig blue with wear around the muzzle from the bullet starter along with sharp edge wear and a few small nicks. Receiver retains virtually all of its orig case colors, bright on sides, faded over receiver ring and bottom of receiver. Buttplate retains faded case colors. Stock has a hairline back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound and shows most of its orig varnish with some minor heat crazing. Mechanics are crisp. Bright shiny bore. Case and tools are fine. Cartridge box has broken corners with moderate to heavy soil. Ammunition is mostly oxidized with some split necks.
