G. CUNKLE AMERICAN PERCUSSION PISTOL.G. CUNKLE-HARRISBURG, PAPERC KY PISTOLNSN44Cal. about 44. Bbl is 5-3/4" with rifleD bore. Top flap is engraved "G. Cunkle". Lock & hammer have foliate engraving with marking "P. Vallee/Phila". "American Gunsmiths" by Frank M.Sellers gives the following listing: "Cunkle, George. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1840-1861d. Percussion fullstock". Sellers also has the following listing: "Vallee, Prosper, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1824d-1846d. Percussion guns". Prosper Vallee was a French gunsmith who sold his gunshop to John Krider. Single set trigger. Brass plate front sight with fixed V-notch rear sight. Key fastened fancy maple stock with checkered wrist. Brass fittings include buttcap, back strap, heel plate, trigger guard, forestock plate, faceted thimble, pipe, half moon sideplate escutcheon and nose cap. Hard wood ramrod. CONDITION: Very good. Metal has cleaned gray appearance with areas of pitting. Stock shows some finish wear and scattered handling marks with small chip along bbl channel forward of lock. Mechanics are functional. Dark bore has visible rifling with spots of deep pitting. 52594-24 ds (4,000-7,000)
