INCISED CARVED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE, POSSIBLY BY SIMON MILLER, HAMBURG, CIRCA 1800. 61 KY NSN 42 Cal. 42. 54" overall, 38-1/2" oct bbl with silver blade front sight with punch dot and stitch decoration engraving on top flat. Gun is brass mounted with 16 silver inlays including a well executed engraved new moon on the cheekpiece. 4-pc pierced patchbox and set triggers. There is a brass vent pick holder under cheekpiece. This is a good looking gun with minimal conservation noted. PROVENANCE: Nick Penachio Collection, 2001; Outstanding estate collection of Confederate and historical arms of Morris Racker, 2001. CONDITION: Very good overall. Iron is overall brown with staining and pitting. Stock is sound with restoration noted around the lock and overall re-varnished. Ketland lock is orig flint, but may be replaced. Sideplates and other brass mounts appear all orig, having a mix of light to medium mustard colored patinas. Silver inlays have grey/silver patina. Incised carving on buttstock is discernible with hand worn patina. Mechanically functional, though set trigger is sloppy with crisp discernible rifling in bore 51958-29 JS (4,000-6,000)
