FINE AMERICAN FLINTLOCK FOWLER PRESENTED AS SHOOTING PRIZE TO SGT. JACOB VAN DOORN, 27TH NEW YORK STATE ARTILLERY, 7TH COMPANY, 1826. EUROPEAN F/L MUSKET NSN 65 Cal. 65. This well made brass mounted 54-3/4" overall, 39-1/2" 2-stage bbl is dated "1826" at breech. Lock marked "SHARPE". Brass mounts are lightly engraved as is lock. Right side of stock has inset 4-1/2" silver presentation plaque with eagle holding banner reading "Awarded to JACOB W VAN DOORN SERGt / by the 7TH COMPANY NATIONAL GUARDS COMMANDED BY / CAPT. CHARLES B. SPICER in the 27 REGT N.Y.S.A. for / his superior skill at target firing Aug 16 1826". Bbl is retained by 3 numbered brass keys with silver escutcheon plates. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall. Gun appears complete and orig. Metal cleaned in the European style. Bbl and lock bright with scattered light pitting. Brass mounts have light to medium mustard patina, silver has grey patina. Stock is sound, solid with sharp edges with glued hairline repair forward of lock.
