WATERS SINGLE SHOT "FLAT LOCK" PERCUSSION PISTOL. A WATERS FLINTLOCK NSN 54 Cal. 54. This is a nice example of one of the real enigmas of sgl-shot American martial pistols. These guns have features of Model 1836s and of Model 1842s. Norm Flayderman has a special section of Flat Lock pistols in his Guide to American Firearms. There are numerous odd variations and this gun is no different in that it is totally iron mounted with only one sub-inspector mark found externally on trigger guard. No other discernible markings other than "A.H. WATERS & CO / MILBURY MASS" stamped on lock below eagle head. Since every one of these Flat Lock pistols is slightly different, for the collector who wants everything you have to buy this one because I am sure there is not another one in identical configuration. CONDITION: Very good overall. Metal overall cleaned and smooth with scattered staining and pitting; stock is sound and solid with good edges. Lock and hammer still retain some muted case colors. Gun appears as complete and orig with possible exception of blued hammer screw. Mechanically sound with smooth clear bore. 52415-4 JS (1,000-1,500)
