CASED PAIR OF HIGH ORIGINAL CONDITION TARGET PISTOLS BY PONDEVAUX OF ST. ETIENNE. BONDENOX ST. ETIENNE PERCUSSION PISTOLS NSN 50 Cal. 50. 9-1/2" Twist octagon bbls. Guns are numbered "1" and "2" on bright polished breech plugs and irons. Irons have rear sights. Island bar locks with tall serpentine sculpted hammers have rebated tails, and are engraved "Pondevaux St. Etienne" (working 1845 - 80). Dense European walnut half stocks with long fluted grips, have relief carving at forend tips. Pistols are bright polished iron mounted. Trigger guards with spurs, are relief engraved "G B C" (?) on bows. Butt caps are nicely filed. Pistols are housed in their orig walnut case lined in green cloth, which is french fitted for pistols and a fine array of orig high quality accessories including brass loading rod, steel bullet mold, ebony handled lead pouring ladle, ebony loading mallet, and a very fine Dixon and Sons small copper bodied bag flask. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, possibly unfired, retaining nearly all their bright polish and with only a bit of silvering on sharp edges of bbls through their orig brown. Case is good, lid has cracks, and is warped. Interior cloth has some insect damage.
