AS FOUND, CASED PAIR OF PERCUSSION TARGET/ DUELING PISTOLS BY BRUNON FRERES WITH ACCESSORIES.BRUNON FRERESPERCUSSION DUELING PISTOLSNSN52W/CASE & ACCESSCal. 52 groove diameter, multi groove rifling. 11" Deeply etched twist bbls are fitted with case hardened patent breeches. Breech irons with integral rear sights have top straps, which extend almost to ends of butts. Case hardened back action locks fitted with flat faced hammers are engraved "BRUNON FRERES" "A St. ETIENNE". Triggers are set. Double beaded trigger guards are case hardened. Nicely marbled European walnut stocks have flared butts with case hardened steel caps. Pistols are housed in their orig fancy veneered mahogany case, and are french fitted for guns, and a number of accessories, including boxwood loading hammer, boxwood and brass loading rod/ powder measure, cleaning rod, bbl shaped boxwood container with nipples, case hardened steel ball mold, copper bodied flask embossed with guns and laurel leaves, as well as a boxwood handled turnscrew. PROVENANCE: Consignors notes: The Brunon pistols were bought in Paris in the 1920's by Sherman Kent, while studying for his dissertation. Mr. Kent began his career as a professor at Yale University; he later became one of the most significant and enduring personalities in the formative decades of the CIA, OSS and ONE. The pistols have remained with the family since their purchase. CONDITION: Excellent, as found. Pistols retain all finishes on wood and metal, with a number of light scratches and marks. Case has numerous cracks, marks and separation of dovetails (needs conservation). Interior cloth is good with insect damage. Accessories are fine. 52339-1 MGM197 (2,500-3,500)
