GERMAN WHEELOCK RIFLE WITH RAISED CARVED RELIEF STOCK.58WHEELOCKNSNUNKCal. 64. 41-1/2" overall. Chiseled iron lock and engraved brass mounts date late 17th century, the stock is later. Maker's mark on bbl is indiscernible. Gun is beautifully embellished with chiseled and engraved animals and hunting scenes. Scrimshawed stag horn inlays are found in butt. PROVENANCE: Outstanding estate collection of Confederate and historical arms of Morris Racker. CONDITION: Metal cleaned in the European style. Lock exhibits heavy pitting, but appears functional and complete as mounted from composition components. Appears mechanically functional with deep 64 cal rifled bore. 51958-26 JS (3,000-4,000)
