FINE WHITNEY CIVIL WAR "GOOD AND SERVICEABLE" MISSISSIPPI RIFLE.WHITNEYMS RIFLENSN58Cal. 58. This is a very nice example of a National Armory 58 Cal. conversion of a 1844 dated Mississippi Rifle (probably manufactured by Tryon, based on bbl proofs). The lock dates from late 1850's to early Civil War where Whitney sold many guns to Southern militias that they assembled from quantities of surplus parts purchased from US government. This gun is in very nice condition retaining much of its orig brown finish to 33" bbl and case colors to lock. CONDITION: Fine to very fine overall. Bbl retains much of its bright brown in protected areas and overall has a thin brown finish. The "E WHITNEY / US" marked lock with no date retains good muted case colors and the hammer retains much of its blue. Stock is sound and solid with fairly sharp edges with discernible but worn inspector cartouches. Brass mounts are well fit, cleaned with light mustard patina. Mechanics are crisp with shiny bright bore. 52701-7 JS (4,000-5,500)
