LOVELY, AS FOUND, PURDEY "GOLDEN AGE" HEAVY PROOF SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME SHOTGUN.PURDEYBEST SIDELOCK2463812GAMODERN(1932) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 29" Chopper lump bbls with slightly raised matted game rib, are engraved with Purdey's Audley House address and Whitworth steel information on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4' chambers. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with SNs, and bottom of left bbl with makers initials "SS" (Sam Simons). Splinter is engraved "Made in England". Tube numbers "61581" and "61582" are on loop. Case hardened Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), hidden third fastener, side clips, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators, disc set strikers, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with exceptionally well cut and cleanly detailed very small shaded scroll with rose bouquet highlights in classic Purdey house style. "J. Purdey & Sons" is at the bottom of each lockplate, as well as on bottom of action over "London". Blued trigger guard is engraved with open scroll, SN is on tang. Top lever is engraved "1"; this number is also engraved on bottom of rear lump and on forend iron indicating gun was gun "1" of a pair. Classic smokey marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over leather faced pad. Stock also features typical drop points, checkering, and a gold oval on toe line engraved "C. J. C." Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release, has actioners initial "H" on iron (Fred Hughes). Bore diameter: left -.729, right - .729. Bore restrictions: left - .035 (full), right - .006 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .030, right - .030. Drop at heel: 2-9/16", drop at comb: 1-7/16". Cast: approx 1/4 off. Weight: 7 lbs. 1 oz. LOP: 14-1/8". CONDITION: Excellent, original as found. Bbls retain approx 80% orig blue with some light flecking, thinning on sides from hand wear. Action retains approx 60% orig case hardening color, silvering on bottom, beads, and fences, percentage difficult to ascertain because of accumulated grime. Lockplates retain over 90% of their color. Top lever is silvered on sharp edges of thumbpiece. Trigger guard considerably silvered at grip but retains most of its blue. Stocks retain most of their orig hand rubbed oil finish with numerous marks and light dents, checkering slightly worn. Bores are very fine with one or two minor pings and some scattered very light pitting at breech ends. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Drop is down, so that tip of iron is about to contact action.
