INTERESTING GUN MAKER'S PATENT MODEL ENGRAVED BY PHILIPPE GRIFNEE IN OAK BOX.PURDEYnsnFrom top view this intricate bit of work looks like a small gauge shotgun bbl and action. Blued bbl section has square shouldered dolls head extension which slips into case hardened breech section, with top lever and pivoting third fastener. Bottom section shows some of the skill necessary to make sliding bolts, etc. during action work, with case hardened slide under bbl section, with spring retainer. Bottom pivot of top lever is cut away to show mechanism. Bbls, bbls section and breech section are appropriately engraved by Philippe Grifnee with very well cut and shaded rose and scroll.His signature is on right side. Major parts are engraved with "no. 23". Initials "AM" are on bottom rear. Left side is engraved "DESIGN PATENT" and "L' A. MARDAGA". Mechanism is housed in oval oak box with green leather strap wrapping around sides which is held in place by brass "buckle" which pivots into place. Sliding brass top cover with some scroll engraving is also engraved "L' A. MARDAGA". CONDITION: Excellent. 53177-9 mgm156 (2,000-4,000)
