WELL MAINTAINED PAIR OF GOLD NAME WESTLEY RICHARDS HAND DETACHABLE (DROP LOCK) EJECTOR GAME SHOTGUNS WITH ORIGINAL CASE. WESTLEY RICHARDS SXS DROPLOCK 8807/8808 12 GA MODERN; C&R (ca 1905) Cal. 12 ga. 30" Dovetailed steel bbls are engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS. 178 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. GUN MAKERS BY SPECIAL APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY KING EDWARD VII" on slightly swamped game ribs with dolls head extensions. Nos "1" and "2" are gold inlaid on rear portions of ribs, top levers, and forend latches denoting a true pair. Bbl flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs, as well as Birmingham re-proofs for 2-1/2" chambers. Case hardened actions with ogee backs are fitted with Westley Richards hand detachable locks, with patent use numbers "1015" and "1016" under removable blued floorplates. Locks are engine turned and are gold inlaid "L" and "R". Actions also feature automatic safeties, sliding third fasteners, and dbl triggers. "WESTLEY RICHARDS" is in gold on both sides. Tops are engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS" "EJECTOR". SNs are on trigger guard tangs. Well matched, nicely streaked European walnut straight grip buttstocks with checkered grips and vacant silver ovals measure 14-7/8" over checkered horn buttplates. Matching splinter Deeley ejector forends with horn tips, have Deeley releases. Gun "1": Bore diameter: left -.738, right - .735. Bore restrictions: left - .034 (full), right - .008 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .019, right - .026. Drop at heel: 2-15/16", drop at comb: 1-11/16"+. Cast: approx 1/2 off. Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. LOP: 14-7/8". Gun "2": Bore diameter: left -.736, right - .736. Bore restrictions: left - .031 (full), right - .003 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .023, right - .023. Drop at heel: 2-13/16", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Cast: approx 1/2 off. Weight: 6 lbs.7 oz. LOP: 14-7/8". Guns are housed in their orig oak and leather 2-gun case with brass corners. Top is embossed "F. W. Pym". Interior is lined in green cloth and has Westley Richards labels in lid, and contains crystal oil bottle, pair of snap caps, broken case extractor, patented cartridge re-loading tool with boxwood handles, and pull through cleaning kit. CONDITION: Very fine to excellent, as partially refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a "best" re-black, most likely done at time of re-proof. Actions retain 50 - 60% orig case hardening color. Top levers, floorplates, and trigger guards correctly re-blued, with some slight subsequent silvering. Bores are excellent. Actions are tight. Bbls are on face. Mechanically fine. Stocks has nearly all what appears to be their orig finish, with a good number of rubs, scratches and bumps, checkering lightly worn. Case leather has darkened, considerably bumped and marked.
