VERY EARLY PRE-WAR BROWNING DIANA SUPERPOSED 12 GA. SHOTGUN. BROWNING SUPERPOSED 2549 12 MODERN; C&R (1932) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4" Chambers. 30" Bbls, marked * Full/* Full beneath forend, are fitted with early style stepped ventilated rib. Browning Ogden address is on top left, with patent and Belgian marks on top right. French grey-finished action with early-style Browning single selective trigger, selector on trigger plate, is engraved in a variation of Pre-war Diana style with pheasant on left side. Right side is engraved with three ducks. Fronts of fences and ejector bolsters on bbls are deeply relief engraved in floral motif, which is typical on pre-war Diana grade guns. Bottom of action has scene of three partridge. Engraving is unsigned. This pattern was a common option for pre-war Diana's coming to the U.S.. Streaked and lightly figured European walnut long tang round knob buttstock measures 13-1/2" over leather faced Hawkins pad. Long slim forend with engraved metal nose cap matches well. Bore diameter: top -.724, bottom - .725. Bore restrictions: top - .035 (full), bottom - .035 (full). Drop at heel: 2-1/4", drop at comb: 1-11/16". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Fine, as partially refinished. Bbls retain nearly all of a satin re-blue. Original French grey finish of action has some light oxidation overall, engraving remains sharp. Stocks have old refinish, checkering show some wear. Bores are fine with some light frosting. Action is tight. Mechanically good. 53201-4 mgm166 (4,000-6,000)
