SUPERBLY CRAFTED, HIGH ORIGINAL CONDITION ITHACA GUN COMPANY "$5000.00 GRADE" SINGLE BARREL TRAP SHOTGUN WITH BEAUTIFULLY CUT RELIEF SCROLL AND HIGH RELIEF TWO COLOR GOLD INLAY.ITHACASBT $5000 GRADE24040571112GAW/CASEMODERN; C&RCal. 12 ga. 34" Bbl has raised, matted, ventilated rib fitted with two white Bradley beads. Breech section is engraved "ITHACA GUN CO" on riband surrounded by exceptionally well cut varying sized open shaded scroll. Engine turned bbl flats are engraved with SN, chamber length and grade. Case hardened "Knick" action with gold plated trigger is engraved with near full coverage open scroll matching that on bbl. This exceptional scroll surrounds well detailed vignettes of feathered game, with major subjects gold inlaid in full relief; a trio of ducks on left side flying over a marsh which has lighter colored gold cattails inlaid in foreground, a trio of pheasant flush from field on right, with tuft of lighter colored grass in foreground, and a gold ruffed grouse flies over light gold pine tree and brush on bottom of action. Trigger guard bow has a gold snipe flying over two gold grass tufts. This superb engraving is by Bill Mains and Fauvre. Both signatures are part of shading of grassland in pheasant scene. Classic crotch figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over red white line solid pad with basket weave pattern butt. Side panels and grip are checkered in fancy crenelated pattern with other patches of checkering over top and under comb, separated by ribbons. A vacant gold shield is on toe line. Matching flared beavertail target forend has Deeley type release. Interior of iron has scroll engraving toward action, and is also engraved "$5000.00" and with SN and gauge. Bore diameter: .734. Bore restrictions: .042 (extra full). Drop at heel: 1-3/8", drop at comb: 1-1/4". Cast: Neutral. Weight: 8 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14-1/4". This fine gun is accompanied by fleece lined soft leather two piece case for action and bbl from British Sporting Arms of Millbrook NY. CONDITION: Excellent, very close to new, but with firing halo on breechface. There is only a hint of wear on metal finishes, and a few light marks on wood finish which shows considerable normal age crazing on both sides of butt. Checkering very lightly worn and soiled.
