VERY FINE A.H. FOX CE GRADE 16 GAUGE WITH FACTORY LETTER.A. H. FOXCE30292616 GAMODERN; C&R; ESACal 16 ga. 28" Chromox fluid steel bbl. No. 4 weight. With full length matted top rib and replaced ivory front bead. Tops of bbls engraved "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL/MADE BY A.H.FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA. U.S.A.". 2-1/2" chambers. Nickel plated double triggers, auto ejectors, auto safety. Capped pistol grip buttstock with checkered side panels is checkered in 3-point pattern through the wrist and has 14-1/8" LOP over serrated lined buttplate. Buttstock which is slightly reddish in color has particularly nice figure near butt. Splinter forearm with engraved Deeley release and triangular ebony tip is checkered in 2-point pattern on sides. Action is nicely engraved in typical C grade pattern with quail in oval on left side, woodcock on oval on right, with top of oval engraved Ansley H. Fox and surrounded by well cut scroll engraving. Bottom of action with setter in field scene in circle, and trigger plate with circular scroll engraving around engraved trigger plate screw. Trigger guard is scroll engraved with open banner on bow and SN at tang with wave border pattern. Top tang with wave border pattern and engraved "SAFE" in front of safety. Breech balls, top of action, and top lever are nicely scroll engraved with border pattern. All visible SN match. WEIGHT: 6 lbs 4 oz. Factory letter confirms this gun as found today. Bore diameter: left -.612, right –.612 Bore restrictions: left –.029 (full) right –.015 (mod) Wall thickness: left –.032 , right –.032 Drop at heel: 2-3/4", drop at comb: 1-5/8". CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain nearly all of an expert quality restored blued finish which is very difficult to discern from orig, with no loss in engraving or strike marks. Action retains more than 80% bold orig case color with toning towards front bottom and minor high point edge wear. Buttstock and forearm have been expertly restored and retain virtually all of their gorgeous custom finish. Bores are bight and shiny, mechanics are crisp. Easily amongst the finest C Grade 16 gauge Foxes that we have offered in the last 10 years. A pleasing little gun. 53209-1 JSL (12,500-17,500)
