RARE .410 "IDEAL" GRADE L.C. SMITH WITH AUTOMATIC EJECTORS AND BEAVERTAIL FOREND.L.C. SMITHIDEAL GRADES56441410GAMODERN; C&RCal. .410 ga. 28" Bbls with matted single sighting plane rib is marked "L. C. SMITH - 410 GA - IDEAL - FULTON, N.Y. U.S.A." on top of left bbl. Case hardened action with non-automatic safety and double triggers is engraved in typical "Ideal" style with 60% coverage very large shaded acanthus and zig-zag borders. Front portion of each lockplate is marked "L. C. SMITH". Plain American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/8" over ribbed composition buttplate. Matching beavertail ejector forend has J-spring and knurled secondary release in oval escutcheon. Bore diameter at muzzles : left -.380, right - .395. Bore restrictions: left - full, right - mod. Drop at heel: 2-5/8", drop at comb: 1-3/8". Cast: neutral. Weight: 6 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14-1/8". PROVENANCE: Bill Trotter collection. CONDITION: Fine as partially restored. Bbls retain most orig blue with numerous marks and light scratches. Action retains nearly all its fading case color. Stocks have oil rubbed in over orig finish, checkering lightly worn. Trigger bow and Forend escutcheon retain nearly all of a re-blue. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. A very rare gun; Houchins estimates 220 Ideal grade .410's were made, the number with automatic ejectors and orig beavertail forends must be incredibly small. 52922-4 mgm137 (10,000-15,000)
