EXCEPTIONALLY RARE TOP QUALITY "EE GRADE" 16 GAUGE REMINGTON MODEL 1894 SHOTGUN. REMINGTON 1894 EE GRADE 112829 16GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 16 ga. 2-1/2" Chambers. Except for the Remington "Special", the "E" grade was the fanciest in the Remington line. Engraving was to no set pattern, and may have been specified by the customer. This rare small gauge example has 28" bbls of stunning "Peiper" pattern Damascus. They are fitted with slightly raised flat matted rib. Tops of bbls are engraved "REMINGTON ARMS CO ILION, N.Y. U.S.A." Bbl flats are stamped with SN, and bottom of lumps are stamped with pellet counts. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with "E" and "P". Boxlock action with automatic safety, pivoting third fastener, and dbl triggers is engraved with the finest quality shaded scroll at near full coverage surrounding superb game scenes; trio of ducks in open water on left side, and three woodcock around woodland pool on right. Trigger plate has an unusual scene of portrait of white tail buck and doe. "REMINGTON ARMS CO" is on swag under each bird scene. Strikingly marbled European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstock measures 14" over checkered wood butt with scroll engraved steel heel and toe plates. Side panels are checkered with very closely spaced borderless pattern, with fleur-di-lis intrusions. Arrowhead shaped drop points have carved flutes at sides. Grip checkering is multi-point pattern with closely spaced diamonds at knob, and along sides of comb, wrapping over top, separated from main checkering by uncheckered ribbons. A vacant gold oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson type release, is checkered similar to grip, with different spaced checkering separated by uncheckered lines. Bore diameter: left -.675, right - .676. Bore restrictions: left - .029 (full), right - .003 (IC). Wall thickness: left - .026, right - .028. Drop at heel: 2-13/16", drop at comb: 1-13/16". Cast: neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14". CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain 80 - 90% dramatic Damascus pattern with some browning and silvering on sides from normal hand wear. Action retains 30 - 40% orig case hardening color, vivid where protected by trigger guard and under top lever, lightening and thinning on sides and considerably silvered on bottom. All engraving remains sharp and clear. Trigger guard has mostly silvered and browned. Stocks retain nearly all of a light re-oil over many marks, scratches, and a few dings. Checkering slightly worn, more so on forend from normal hand wear. Bores are very fine to excellent; there is evidence of a couple of raised dents. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. An incredibly rare Remington, one could estimate from known and reported examples that fewer than 40 "EE" grades were made, mostly in 12 gauge. This 16 ga example in relatively untouched condition, is beyond compare. 52918-1 mgm168 (30,000-50,000)
