SPLENDID WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 RIFLE.WINCHESTER18661363444 HENRYCal. 44 Henry. 20" rnd bbl with bbl bands forward and rear. Forward with integrated sight. Correct rear bbl sight. Full length magazine tube. Saddle ring and stud are in place. Straight grain American walnut stock. Brass receiver. Loading gate is flat type, indicating very early first model 1866. Straight grain American walnut forearm. Matching SN's in upper channel of stock and left side of lower tang. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Good condition overall. Bbl retains little orig finish. Most areas have turned to dark grey patina. Address on bbl is barely legible, indicating heavy handling. Magazine tube with no evident damage. Bbl band devoid of blue. Screws in both bbl bands are quite "buggered" but in place. Brass receiver on left shows scratches and evidence of hard use. Side plates appear to have been removed. Right side of receiver with scratches running horizontally to the gun with the loading gate retain 20% nitre blue. Screw heads on receiver very good to fine. Stock has turned to dark orange color with minor surface scratches and impressions. Small chip in corner of upper tang next to receiver on left side. Right side of stock with light impressions and scratches. Wood to metal fit on both sides is fine, with no cracks or splits. Buttplate fits extremely well with no major dings or gouges. Forearm has turned dark. Gun cycles properly. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore with light pitting and strong rifling. 6 or 7/10. 52913-5 MS (10,000-12,500)
