FINE EARLY HENRY MARKED WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 OCTAGONAL BARREL RIFLE.WINCHESTER18662140944Cal. .44. 24-3/8" bbl. Deep mustard color brass on both sides. American straight grain walnut stock and forearm. Full mag tube. Early bbl address "HENRYS PATENT OCTOBER 16 1860 WITH KINGS PATENT MARCH 9 1866". Comes equipped with late Henry 900 yd ladder sight along with a standard front bbl sight with German silver blade. Case colored hammer and lever have turned to a dark patina with trigger as well. Carrier lifter is a dark mustard color. CONDITION: Very good. Oct bbl is dark plum with minor surface rust at end of muzzle with no serious dings or gouges in bbl. Mag tube is also a dark patina with some surface rust near muzzle. All screw heads look to be turned but are in good condition. Loading gate retains 60-70% of dark plum color. Stock has numerous surface dings and scratches with a black line that runs the distance of stock from tang to buttplate. Stock fit is excellent. Right side of stock has more compressions; moderate to deep ones on high side of stock. Looks to have orig finish which is about 60-70%. Ladder sight is dark patina with the ladder being slightly bent. Forearm on left side has surface compressions on side and bottom; right side has 1/2" gouge in forearm that edges to receiver and forearm cap remains intact with no splintering or cracking. 75-80% original finish remains on forearm. Receiver retains a deep mustard color with no apparent polishing of buffing on both left and right sides. Sideplates look like they have not been removed from a long period of time. Top of receiver is an even darker mustard color with minor dings on right hand side. Upper tang is unmarked, but a deep mustard color. Lower tang is marked with SN and "b" stamped in front of lever latch. Rifle cycles correctly. Bore is moderately eroded but shiny. A pleasant brass frame 66 rifle that has aged well over its lifespan. 53179-3 MS (10,000-12,000)
