FINE AND SCARCE MODEL 1876 EARLY THIRD MODEL WINCHESTER RIFLE. WINCHESTER 1876 62940 40-60 Cal. 40-60. 28" full oct bbl. Standard sights with full magazine. Cal. marking on top of bbl and also cal. marking on brass lifter. CONDITION: Oct. bbl rates a good 90-95% orig blue with some light impressions over the top of the 40-60 cal. marking but still legible. Receiver left side retains 90% of strong blue with one rub mark on the left side plate, all screw heads all remain in excellent unmarred condition. Right side of the receiver is maybe 70-60% blue with two rub markings on the side plate. Hammer and lever retain ample amounts of case color mostly on the hammer and in protected areas on the lever. Buttplate is a standard toe end buttplate that is blued with 80% blue remaining. Wood condition forearm has one negligible repair on the bottom next to receiver with a fill of some kind (?). Wood condition is excellent which looks to be an old refinish sometime ago. Forend cap is 40-50% blue remaining and fits well to the rifle. Dust cover fits tight on rail and retains 60% blue. Mechanics are crisp with bright shiny bore. (Only 63,871 1876 ‘Centennial Model's were manufactured making them more than 10 times as rare as the 1873, most having seen hard use in the West. 52966-1 MS (6,000-8,000)
