VERY FINE SECOND YEAR PRODUCTION "OPEN TOP" WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SADDLE RING CARBINE.WINCHESTER1876273545-75Cal. 45-75. 22" bbl. Round standard front and rear carbine sights. One bbl band in place with nosecap also in place. Blued receiver, case colored lever and hammer with blued trigger. Receiver retains its carbine stud and ring which is in place. Carbine style buttplate that is case colored. American straight grain walnut stocks that are turning dark. Cal. markings are not present on early 76 carbines, either on the bbl or on the carrier lifter. Accompanied by Cody Firearms Records Office research sheet which confirms configuration and ship date May 9, 1878. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Round bbl retains 98% of blue. Only wear noticeable where bayonet lug would fasten to muzzle. Remaining blue on left and right side are equally balanced out at 96% blue. Top of receiver is 98% blue with top tang at 90% blue. Lower tang rates 95% blue with SN markings very evident. Case colored hammer dark with drag lines, but retain 90% of its case color. Lever is also dark but retains less case color at about 50-60%. Buttplate is dark patina with case colors showing through. All screw heads appear to be untouched and retain their case color. Straight grain American walnut wood is excellent with very few impressions on the left side and very few impressions of the right side. Wood to metal fit is very fine with one small chip of wood missing out of left corner next to receiver. Bore bright and shiny. Mechanism is excellent. Very handsome carbine that saw very little use. All "Open Top" 1876's are scarce and excellent, carbines are very rare. 53091-161 MS (30,000-40,000)
