STUNNING WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 BRITISH PROOF MUSKET IN 45-75 CALIBER.WINCHESTER1876 MUSKET463945-75Cal. 45-75. 32" round bbl with standard two line address. Equipped with standard (Baker type) ladder sights. British proofed at chamber and on front receiver ring, also British calibre stamping of "450" on right chamber area. Comes with a blued receiver, blued dust cover with an oval thumbprint. Straight grained American walnut on stock and forearm. One piece steel cleaning rod attached to forearm on left side. Single barrel band with front sling swivel and rear swivel inlet on toe line. Case colored hammer, trigger and lever. Buttplate is also case colored. No standard caliber marking on bbl or carrier lifter which is correct. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Records Office research sheet confirming the configuration and shipped May 19, 1879. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Bbl 80-85% blue with a obvious rub mark underneath bbl band on left side. Cleaning rod is present and looks to be in 96-97% orig condition. Forearm cap retains a 95-96% blue. Rear bbl band is 96-97% orig blue which has a sling swivel attached to it. Left side of receiver retains 95-96% blue thinning on high edges. Right side of receiver retains 96-97% blue with a few light surface scratches on the back side of sideplate. Loading gate retains 96% strong, bright, niter bluer. All screw heads look to be in fine condition, some untouched, none buggered up. Stock retains most of it's oil finish to about 96-98% with light impressions on left side with no slivers of wood missing or gouges present in stock. Bottom of stock is equipped with a sling swivel. Right side of stock has few scratches and very few impressions into stock, also with no wood missing or slivers of wood missing. Thumbprint in dust cover with 50-60% blue. Buttplate retains 85-90% orig case colors which have turned soft but evident that the colors remain in place. Bore would rate an 8 or 9 out of 10, rifling is bright and shiny and no pitting. Cycles properly, mechanics are fine. 53091-152 MS (15,000-20,000)
