EXTRAORDINARY AND INCREDIBLY RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 MUSKET IN PRISTINE CONDITION.WINCHESTER18867020845-70Cal. 45-70. 30" round bbl. with one bbl band, case colored receiver along with case colored lever, hammer and blued trigger. Mounted with sling swivel on bottom of stock and sling swivel on bottom of bbl band. 45-70 cal is marked on top of bbl between the rear bbl sight and front of receiver. Standard post sight for musket. Standard American grade walnut for the stock, and forearm. Comes with carbine style buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Records Office research sheet confirming configuration and ship date Sept 8, 1892. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 95% blue with the balance of the missing blue where bayonet was attached. Forearm cap has 96% blue. Bbl band retains 96-97% blue and looks to have never been disassembled. A few light impressions on wood on left and right of forearm with a gouge on bottom of forearm indicated. Stock has light impressions on left and right sides. No splinters or wood missing around upper or lower tang area. Buttplate fits very fine with 98% case color remaining. Condition of case color on hammer remains 95-96% with no drag line. Lever with 95-97% case color with blue trigger. Wood has raised grain throughout on stock indicating very little handling. Loading gate retains 85-90% dark nitre blue color. Screw heads indicate they have been turned, but have little use. Action is excellent. Bright shiny bore. 1886 muskets are extremely rare and difficult to find in any condition much less a really choice one as is this example. 53091-173 MS (25,000-35,000)
