IMPRESSIVE AND RARE WINCHESTER CUTAWAY 1ST MODEL 1886 WITH NICKEL FINISH IN 45-70 CALIBER. WINCHESTER 1886 NSN 45-70 Cal. .45-70. 26" full oct bbl that retains a nickel finish. Receiver, breech bolt, hammer, buttplate, lever and trigger are nickel as well. This is a 1st Model 1886 cutaway, which is extremely rare showing all the inner workings of the receiver with the stock attached as well as buttplate. Stock is of American grade straight grain walnut, as well as the forearm. Cutaways normally do not have SN. Upper tang marked "MODEL 1886", bbl is marked "45-70" on top flat and regular rolled die stating "MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN." PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Excellent. Oct bbl retains 80-85% nickel with balance turning patina color. Mag tube retains 90%+ of its nickel finish. Forearm cap with about 50% nickel finish. Receiver retains about 60% nickel, approx 40% on breech bolt. Hammer, trigger and lever are also nickel plated with hammer retaining 75% nickel, with trigger at approx 20% nickel and lever retains about 30% nickel. Buttplate is 75-85% nickel with balance turning silvery color. Wood has very few light impressions on both left and right sides with no other cracks or missing wood evident. Forearm has 80-90% finish with few compression marks, having no splinters or missing wood. Bore appears unfired. Mechanics fine.
