IMPORTANT CIVIL WAR 44 HENRY 3-BOX LOT OF AMMUNITION.

This 3-box lot of New Haven Arms, Henry repeating rifle ammunition designated Cal. 44-100 was manufactured circa 1863-1865. Civil War cartridges for the Henry rifle are extremely difficult to obtain, unlike the black box that was manufactured for the U.S. government, these early green label boxes are certainly of the same era. Slight differences in the 3 labels as to the borders of 2 boxes are what as known as the straight border. These are believed to have been made in 1862 and 1863 only. While the later box from 1863-1865 has the wide scroll border, as was found on the military style boxes of the day. This is a rare opportunity to own 3 of the finest Civil War era 44 Henry ammunition boxes known. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Late pattern bold border box is exceptional w/bright vivid label and strong intact corners. Both straight border boxes suffer slight label fading and typical edge and corner distress. Both boxes have had corners preserved, using clear tape at some much earlier time. Other than this, boxes are considered to be excellent. 53091-257 TDW (15,000-20,000)
