RARE AND VERY FINE MARTIALLY MARKED SMITH & WESSON NICKEL 1ST MODEL AMERICAN SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER.SMITH & WESSON1ST MODEL AMERICAN215444Cal. 44. Standard configuration with 8" ribbed, keyhole shaped bbl with 1-line Smith & Wesson address with small "US" stamped rear of address. Gun is mounted with 2-pc walnut grips with crisp inspectors cartouche "OWA" (Oliver W. Ainsworth). This gun is one of the first 1,000 US purchased American (Model 3) revolvers of which only 200 were nickel and this has to be among the best of these hard used military revolvers. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Matching SNs found throughout. Gun retains over 95% orig bright nickeling with some freckling and staining in cyl flutes and bbl housing at cyl and light muzzle wear. Markings all crisp and discernible. Hammer retains strong muted case colors. Grips are in matching very fine condition with light edge wear, some raised grain and bright cartouche. 53091-94 JS (10,000-12,500)
