MARVELOUS MEXICAN CHARRO SADDLE MADE BY FERNANDO PEREZ ALONSO OF MEXICO CITY OF THE TALABARTERIA "LA PALESTINA".Saddle is built on an open seated rawhide covered tree. The entire pommel is capped in silver repousse silver work in a floral design. Horn is round and approximately 8" in diameter. Seat is open. Rear of seat has a silver repousse silver cap. Saddle has integral cantina saddle bags mounted behind the seat. Saddle bags and skirt are both decorated with high relief carved floral decorations with leather rosettes. Conchos, cinch strap, buckle, and stirrups all are decorated with a horseshoe motif. Stirrup straps are plain with a simple intertwining line motif. Latigo conchos are all horseshoe shaped. Accompanying saddle is a silver mounted bit and bridle. Bridle has a medium size spade and sabrocitas. Rein chains are attached at the front. Cheek straps are made of hinged silver plates with silver buckles. Bit cheeks have large silver conchos. Bit has steel discs with copper inlay decoration. Saddle has maker's mark and address in ink on back of seat. Saddle has a blue wool felt liner. Saddle accompanied by a contemporary wooden storage box made to fit this saddle. Box also contains ball-end herding sticks SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Saddle is intact overall. Cantina bag has been slightly detached on left side. Some of the high relief carved leather flowers show some high-point damage. One bridle strap has a partially broken hinge by buckle on left side. A wonderful example of the late 19th century Mexican Charro saddle. These saddles were ridden by very skilled horsemen in Mexican rodeos, known as Charrerias. This saddle is very ornate and would make a wonderful display piece.
