WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 "RUSSIAN MUSKET". WINCHESTER 1895 392914 7.62MM MODERN; C&R Cal. 7.62 mm. 28" bbl, full blue finish. Straight grain American stocks with handguard. Two bbl bands. Steel carbine style buttplate. Sling swivel mounts. Bbl has standard blade front sight and ladder rear sight which is graduated to 3200 yards. Left side of receiver shows Winchester address and patent mark in two lines. Receiver ring has a "WP" proof struck above Cal. mark. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1895 / WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF & FGN". Musket is otherwise unmarked. Clip guides are mounted on top of receiver. The Russian Imperial government received 293,816 Model 95 muskets in the years 1915 & 1916. When the Russian Revolution broke out, arms shipments to Russian were stopped. This musket was made in 1919 and is a left-over from the Russian contract that was never delivered, hence, there are no Russian marks present. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% bright blue finish with only some slight wear at the muzzle. Bbl bands both retain nearly all of the blue finish. Receiver also retains 95% of the blue finish with some slight high-point wear and oil staining. Hammer and lever also retain nearly all the orig blue finish, as does the buttplate. Stocks are fine, full sized with hardly any evidence of use. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is bright with strong rifling. A chance to obtain a very rare example of a Russian Model 1895 musket that appears unused. 53094-74 TEP (7,500-9,500)
