RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1895 RIFLE WITH OCTAGON BARREL AND CRESCENT BUTTPLATE. WINCHESTER 1895 45507 38-72WCF MODERN; C&R Cal. 38-72 WCF. 26" oct bbl, full blue finish. Straight grain American walnut stocks with crescent butt and ebony insert on Schnabel forend. Bbl has Cal. mark stamped on upper flat at the breech. Brass blade front sight, buckhorn rear sight. Receiver has Winchester address and patent marks rolled on left side. SN appears on lower tang under lever. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1895 / WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK". PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 95% orig blue finish with some high-point wear and slight muzzle wear. Marking is sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver shows 95% bright blue finish with some high-point wear, a few scratches and some slight erosion on top ring of receiver. Bolt retains nearly all orig blue, as does the lever and magazine housing. Hammer shows generous amount of case color. All markings are sharp. Buttplate is a smooth, grey/brown patina overall with some slight roughness at heel and toe. Mechanics are crisp. Stocks are full-size and retain most of the orig varnish finish with just some slight handling marks overall. An opportunity to obtain a Model 1895 Winchester rifle with a rare oct bbl that would be hard to improve upon, made in 1904. 53094-83 TEP (5,000-6,000)
