MAGNIFICENT FACTORY ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 97 BLACK DIAMOND PIGEON GRADE TAKEDOWN SHOTGUN. WINCHESTER 97 796442 12 GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 30" full choke bbl, full blue finish, 4X checkered pistol grip stocks with black diamond insert at wrist. Top of bbl is matted. Left side of bbl has model, Winchester trademark, gauge, and choke rolled on left side. Right side of bbl shows 2-line Winchester address. "WP" proof is struck between gauge and choke mark on bbl and on left top of receiver ring. Actuator bar marked "MODEL 97 / WINCHESTER / TRADEMARK REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN". Left side of receiver is engraved with a vignette showing two Pointers flushing quail. Scene has scroll accent on both ends with a line and punched dot border. Right side of receiver is engraved with a vignette of four mallard ducks in flight. Scene is bordered with scroll accent on front and rear with scalloped and punch dot border. Top of receiver shows scroll accent on both ends. Rear face of bolt has scalloped and intertwining line decoration. Rear of receiver also has scroll decoration with scalloped border. Trigger guard is scroll decorated. Bolt side is engraved "PIGEON GUN" with scroll decoration. SN appears on bottom of receiver with matching number on bbl takedown ring. Buttstock has a high comb. Stocks are checkered in the "H" pattern. Pistol grip is capped. Cap has Winchester logo. Buttplate is missing. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl shows 80% of the somewhat thinning blue finish with some minor scratch marks in the matte. Markings are sharp. Bore is bright. Receiver shows 90% blue finish that is thin on the right side near trigger. There are some slight abrasions on left forward edge. Engraving and markings are sharp. Mechanics are crisp. Stocks are very good, full sized and retain most of the varnish finish with only a few minuscule handling marks overall. Grip cap is very good.
