FINE PRE-WWI WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 SLIDE ACTION SHOTGUN. WINCHESTER 1897 36802 12GA MODERN; C&R Cal. 12 ga. 20" bbl, full blue finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with plain pistol grip, grooved forend and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address and patent mark rolled on top with "12" at breech. No proof marks are struck. Actuator bar is rolled "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1897". SN appears on bottom forward part of receiver. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 90% of bright blue finish. Bead front sight shows a deep mustard patina. Markings are sharp. Bore is slightly frosty. Receiver shows 90% bright blue finish with some speckling on top and bottom at carry point. Mechanics are very crisp. Stocks are fine and retain most of the orig varnish finish with only minuscule handling marks overall. Buttplate shows 95% bright blue finish. A fine example of an early Winchester Model 97 shotgun, a favorite of law enforcement officers, seldom seen in this condition. 53094-115 TEP (1,500-1,800)
