FINE COLT SEVEN SHOT OPEN TOP .22 REVOLVER WITH FACTORY BOX. COLT OPEN TOP 82701 22 Cal. 22. 2-3/8" bbl. Nickel finish overall with 2-pc walnut grips with 2-line Colt address on top of bbl and marked .22 cal. on left side of bbl. Spur trigger design with half moon blade front sight and notched hammer for rear sight. Manufactured in the year 1875 and is housed in an outstanding factory cardboard box with L-shaped Colt cleaning rod/tool. Factory cardboard boxes for these early 7-shot revolvers are somewhat considered the unicorn of Colt collecting. This example has a full detailed label top and although rather shop worn is all present. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Good overall with evidence of contemporary preservation by the use of a polishing wheel at the forcing cone area of bbl. Several small areas of finish loss are evident, one on cylinder and other at muzzle of bbl. These areas of distress are more likely from poor storage at some much earlier date. Balance of nickel is outstanding and the 2-pc grips are equally fine. Grip screw is rather fouled from an ill-fitting screwdriver. All visible numbers are matching and mechanics are functioning properly. Bore is typically dark with visible rifling. Box is very fine overall considering its great rarity. Several areas have had the application of clear tape, i.e. one corner on lid and one edge at base. All in all a very fine example. 53094-28 TDW (2,500-3,500) W/BOX
