STELLAR COLT 1877 DOUBLE ACTION LIGHTNING REVOLVER IN FANTASTIC ORIG PICTURE BOX. COLT 1877 1108 38 Cal. .38. 3-1/2" bbl. Nickel finish overall with outstanding etched panel cal designation indicating "COLT D.A. 38". This first year production SN 1108 mfg without ejector rod is mounted with the rare, outstanding checkered rosewood 1pc grips. Rich niter blue screws, hammer and trigger inclusive of traverse cyl pin latch. Housed in an exceptionally fine Colt factory pebble grain exterior box with picture label top. These boxes are one of the rarest sought of and are frequently encountered as reproductions, this authentic variation is a true treasure. Inside lid is a small note having been period applied dated July 20, 1877 indicating that this gun was presented to a Mr. John Dicker as a birthday present from his friend Mr. L.T. Bilpeir(?). PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine overall with several scratches on bottom of bbl from removal of cyl pin. Slight loss of niter blue finish is found on ends of traverse cyl pin latch. Bore having sharp rifling, however does have several areas of darkness present. Action functions properly and is in good working order and all visible numbers are matching without having been detailed disassembled. Grips are outstanding showing no distress or finish loss. Niter blue on screws, hammer and trigger is mostly present with the exception of extreme high points of screws and leading edges of trigger. The fine Colt picture box has had, at some previous time in the last 140 yrs suffered a minor break in bottom that has been repaired from the interior by some more contemporary conservation. Two corners of the lid are loose, but could be easily repaired. Picture label itself is quite brilliant with several minor rubs being evident as well as a small area of material loss at top right. 53094-11 TDW (6,000-7,500)
