ORIGINAL LETTER FROM SAM COLT TO JOHN S. JARVIS, ESQ., DATED AUGUST 3, 1861, ALONG WITH RECEIPT FOR PAYMENT OF WORK DONE, RECEIVED BY HENRY B. COLTON FROM COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO., DATED SEPTEMBER 1865 AND ORIGINAL TAG FROM THE COLT FAMILY VICTORY DAY CELEBRATION, AUGUST 29, 1943.Letter is from Samuel Colt to John S. Jarvis explaining that he was away for a rest and had just returned. Letter is concerning production of Single Shot rifled muskets for use in the Civil War. Letter is in a gilt wood frame, matted with a lithograph of Samuel Colt. Back of frame is open to show other side of letter. Bottom of frame has plaque stating SUTHERLAND-WILSON PAGE 204". Pg 204 of The Book of Colt Firearms by R. L. Wilson shows a photo of all 4-pgs of this exact letter. Receipt is from Colt Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company and signed by Henry B. Colton for work done for Colt. Hang tag is from Colt Victory Day celebration, August 29, 1943. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Letter is very good with clear writing and fine example of Sam Colt's signature. Letter has a few minor water stains which are also apparent on pg 204 of Wilson's book. Letter was not examined out of frame. Receipt is very good and shows 2 fold marks that have been flattened out. 2 cent stamp is also very good. All writing is clear and legible.
