EXTREMELY FINE AND RARE REGULATION CIVIL WAR 1860 AMES CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABER.

Standard regulation Civil War Cavalry officer's saber with 35" blade with 23" brightly etched panels with American motifs and "AMES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS". Grip is sharkskin with gilded brass wire. Hilt is engraved with relief design and eagle on quillon, gold plated with regulation wood lined iron scabbard with skinnier mounts and higher finish then enlisted saber. This is among the nicest examples of rare regulation Civil War cavalry officer's saber you will find. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Blade retains most of its orig luster. Hilt retains about 80% orig gilt with worn areas, mixed mustard patinas. Sharkskin grip is complete with light high edge wear; twisted brass wire is intact. Bright steel scabbard has staining and scattered areas of pinprick pitting. Sword still retains orig buff protective washer. 53094-154 JS (6,000-8,000)
