IMPRESSIVE CASED 1905 VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE PRESENTATION HIGH GRADE MODEL 1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD.Model 1860 militia staffs don't get much fancier or gaudier then this one! Decorated, fluted silver grip, extra branches, high relief, top mount with Virginia state seal and 3-color enamel, with silver intertwined logo "VPI". Middle mount has red and blue enamel covered patriotic shield. Presentation between mounts in raised gold relief "PRESENTED TO CAPTAIN C.E. COYNER / BY CO. B. V.P.I. JUNE 1905". Sword is like knew, still tied with a bullion sword knot and fancy bullion sword belt with gold and silver eagle buckle. Housed in orange velvet lined hinged presentation case. Housed with pair of white gloves and white handkerchiefs and orig linen carrying bag for sword. SIZE: PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Sword is extremely fine, retaining virtually all of its orig gold plating to hilt and blade. The 31" double-edged blade made my M. C. Lilley is emblazoned with long patriotic panels including the captain's name with gold highlights, retaining virtually all its orig luster. Silver grip is equally fine. Interior of case is fine.
