RARE AND UNIQUE MODEL 1816 PRESENTATION FLINTLOCK MUSKET WITH ENGRAVED GERMAN SILVER MOUNTINGS. INSHAW 1816 NSN 64 Cal. .64. 42" bbl. Marked on top of bbl "J INSHAW / 150 WILLIAM ST. / New-York", "US / NWP / P". Bbl features scroll engraving along with arrow pointing towards end of muzzle, at breech area and around bands. German silver bbl bands with engraving. Engraved German silver buttplate, sideplate, and trigger guard as well as numerous inlays. Large German silver eagle perched atop globe with inscription "Generous Actions / HAVE THEIR OWN REWARD" on right side of butt. Large German silver panoply of arms and American flag on left side of stock with "Presented To / John. D. Williamson. / as a tribute of regard for his NOBLE CONDUCT / on the 6th Decr 1836 Wm P. ROGERS.", "1776" appearing closer to the toe in a separate panel. Bottom of stock features anther inlay with "LIBERTY" at bottom of a cap as well as a family coat-of-arms. Lockplate is engraved with an American eagle and shield. Hammer and frizzen are also engraved. Orig flint. Stock is checkered at wrist. Ramrod appears orig and correct for the gun. This gun is certainly worthy of further research. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Gun remains in fine and untouched orig condition. Engraving and markings are clear. Pleasing patina to German silver and steel parts. Wood is fine with minor handling marks and some wear to checkering at wrist. One small inlay missing from right side of butt. The tip of the wing of the eagle on the right side of the butt, a small piece from the large inlay on the left side of the butt, as well as a small piece of the sideplate are missing. Bore is dirty with light surface rust and minor pitting. Mechanics are fine. 53094-88 GER (4,000-5,000)
