ELEGANT SOILED DOVES TRAVELING & TOILETRY SET. REMINGTON VEST POCKET 266 22 Ornate French fitted traveling case covered in faded orange crushed velvet with satin lining. Form fitted to accommodate lady's M.O.P. handled manicure set and small silver and M.O.P. mounted unnamed push dagger and small Remington vest pocket .22 pistol with 3-1/4" bbl. M.O.P. grips and lightly scroll and vine engraved with what appears to be a silver-plated finish. These traveling sets are frequently referred to as "a prostitutes set" indicating that these were the necessities for lady's of low morals who were employed in what is known as the "oldest profession". A very attractive crescent moon with the name "Pearl LeBlanc" over a "New Orleans" marked star of matching M.O.P. is fitted on front and an elegant tintype of a lovely lady is mounted on the interior lid. A non-functioning pocket watch with silver case and sterling marked fleur de lis brooch. These sets have been sold and traded as novelty items for nearly a century and were strictly intended for display use. PROVENANCE: The spectacular collections of Ray Bentley featuring the finest and rarest deluxe antique Winchesters in the world. CONDITION: Fine overall with exterior of case being slightly weathered and worn thread-bare at edges. M.O.P. manicure set is very fine with some minor chipping and glue residue as well as slight patina on metal components. Remington pistol is functioning with a dark bore and a repaired right grip only evident when disassembled. Push dagger is fine overall with no distress. 53094-184 TDW (1,500-2,500)
