WINCHESTER 4TH MODEL 1866 RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER. WINCHESTER 1866 159776 4RF Cal. 44 RF. 24" oct bbl, full magazine. Gun metal receiver. Crescent steel buttplate and forend cap. Bbl shows correct 2-line Winchester address rolled in front of rear sight. Front sight has a copper half-moon blade installed; rear sight is standard sporting type. SN is stamped on lower tang behind lever latch. Accompanied by factor letter confirming configuration and showing shipment on March 13, 1883, Order No. 3063. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show a mottled silver/grey patina with some stains toward the muzzle and light scratches and marks overall. Markings are clear. Sights are very good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver shows a mottled mustard patina overall with no evidence of heavy cleaning. Markings are sharp. Hammer and lever also show a mottled silver/grey patina. Mechanics are fine. Stocks are very good, slightly undersized and show an old re-varnish finish over numerous handling marks. Buttplate and forend cap are also a mottled grey/brown patina. Nice example of a late Model 1866 rifle. 52914-3 TEP (8,500-12,500)
