WINCHESTER 4TH MODEL 1866 ROUND BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH FACTORY LETTER. WINCHESTER 1866 152679 44RF Cal. 44 RF. 24" rnd bbl, full magazine. Blue finish with gunmetal receiver and crescent steel buttplate. Bbl shows correct 2-line address rolled in front of rear sight; standard sporting sights. SN is engraved on lower tang behind lever latch. Receiver has saddle ring staple holes filled. This rifle is accompanied by a factory letter stating that this rifle was orig received in the warehouse as a carbine on December 18, 1879 and was converted to a rnd bbl rifle and shipped on May 5, 1881, Order No. 25293. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show a deep mottled brown patina with some light dents and scratches overall, especially toward the muzzle. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Receiver shows a mottled mustard patina overall with some evidence of light cleaning. Markings are sharp. Hammer and lever are a mottled silver/brown patina. Mechanics are crisp. Stocks are very good, slightly undersized and show an old re-varnish finish with handling marks and scratches overall. Forend has some deep gouging on right side. Buttplate is a mottled grey patina as is forend cap. An example of a late Winchester Model 66 that was converted at the factory from a carbine into a rifle to fulfill a special order. 52914-2 TEP (7,500-10,000)
