WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1866 SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH FACTORY LETTER. WINCHESTER 1866 128262 44RF Cal. 44 RF. 20" bbl. Blue finish with gun metal receiver and buttplate. Saddle ring is attached. Bbl shows correct Winchester address in front of rear sight. Front sight is on bbl band; rear sight is carbine leaf design. SN is stamped on bottom of receiver behind the trigger. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl and magazine tube show a smooth plum/brown patina with considerable traces of blue in protected areas. Markings are sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Receiver shows a deep mottled mustard patina with some stains and scratches overall. Sideplates fit well. Hammer and lever are both mottled brown patina with hints of case color remaining. Mechanics crisp. Stocks are very good, full sized with numerous handling marks and dents overall. Accompanying this carbine is a Cody Firearms Museum letter dated 5/29/2008 confirming configuration and showing shipment on April 23, 1876, Order No. 3122. 52914-4 TEP (6,000-10,000)
