RARE 2ND MODEL WINCHESTER 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE WITH FULL NICKEL FINISH.WINCHESTER1873 SRC7058944WCFCal. 44 WCF. 20" rnd bbl, full magazine, full nickel finish, straight grain American walnut stocks with saddle ring and carbine buttplate. Bbl shows correct Winchester 2-line address and patent mark rolled in front of rear sight. Bbl has stud front sight with 2-leaf carbine rear sight. Receiver is of 2nd Model type with dust cover rail attached with screw and exposed trigger pin. Upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" without finials. SN is engraved on lower tang behind leather latch. Elevator is not marked.Accompanied by Winchester serial number search sheet confirming configuration and ship date of Sept. 14,1881. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl shows 80% nickel finish that is flaking in areas toward muzzle and around bbl address. Nickel has a somewhat bubbly texture. Magazine tube has a smooth bright nickel finish with only slight flaking. Sights very good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver retains 70% nickel finish with balance flaked to a dark brown patina. Right side plate shows some evidence of exposure to heat. The appearance of nickel on this carbine was probably caused from being near a heat source, such as a wood stove or campfire. All markings are clear. Dust cover retains most of the nickel finish as does the elevator. Elevator has been lightly cleaned. Right sideplate shows the most evidence of heat damage. Stocks are very good, full size and show a smooth varnish finish overall and a few scratches on the right side of butt and forearm. Mechanics are fine. Buttplate retains 90% bright nickel finish with some light flaking. Bbl bands retain 90% of somewhat bubbly nickel finish. This is a very good example of a rare 2nd Model Winchester saddle ring carbine with seldom seen full nickel finish that would be a welcome addition to any Winchester 1873 collection. 53126-3 TEP (9,500-12,500)
