ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 TAKEDOWN RIFLE.WINCHESTER18869285640-82WCFCal. 40-82 WCF. 26" oct bbl, full magazine with takedown feature. Vernier tang sight, nickel bead front sight. Standard buckhorn rear sight. Full blue finish, straight grained American walnut stocks with crescent buttplate. Bbl shows 2-line Winchester address rolled in front of rear sight with Cal. at breech. SN stamped on lower tang with patent marks under lever. Upper tang sight is not marked. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube show an even plum/brown blue that has turned dull with high point wear and some slight staining toward the muzzle. Markings are clear and sharp. Sights are very good. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains 80% bright blue finish with some stains at the carry point and high point wear. Bolt retains most of the orig blue. Markings are sharp. Hammer and lever both show generous traces of case color finish. Loading gate also shows a considerable amount of fire blue. Tang sight also retains most of the blue finish. Aperture disc shows some staining. Buttplate is a mottled grey patina with some staining. Forend cap retains 50% bright blue with some staining on the left side. Stocks are very good and full sized and show most of an old re-varnished finish. There are two notches behind rear tang and four notches on the forward end of the comb. Mechanics are crisp. A very nice example of an antique Winchester 86 takedown rifle in a great Cal. to shoot. 53044-6 TEP (4,500-6,500)
